A recipient of the James and Mary Glass Scholarship, Tessa is a light, lyric Singaporean soprano based in the UK under the tutelage of Yvonne Howard currently undertaking her Master of Music degree at the Royal Northern College of Music. She has a wide vocal range and through her Undergraduate studies with Deborah Rees at the RNCM, has sung Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary repertoire. The terms of her visa allow her to undertake singing and performance work within the UK, and her Singaporean passport allows her to travel visa-free to 195 countries and territories.
Tessa has had opportunities to work on song, lieder and operatic arias through masterclasses and coachings notably with Dame Ann Murray, Susan Bullock, Michael Chance, Julius Drake, Caroline Dowdle, David Owen Norris, Jane Robinson and Toby Spence.
Previous experience in performance includes singing the roles of Pamina (Die Zäubeflöte), First Lady (Die Zäubeflöte), Despina (Cosi fan Tutte), Filia (Jepthe), Kurfürstin (Der Vogelhändler), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Hanna Glawari (Die Lustige Witwe), Chorus (The Pilgrim’s Progress), Ensemble (The Hammer of Thor), Ensemble (Into the Underwood). She has also premiered the principal roles of Mary (The Path is Made for Walking) and Celia (Good King Agatha) with Manchester Contemporary Youth Opera. Alongside operatic performances, she has also performed in concerts premiering new works at the RNCM, singing in chamber groups, and most notably performing at the opening ceremonies of the new Singapore sports stadium and the ASEAN 8th Paralympic Games.
